Christ Fellowship Today: Christmas in Mary's Shoes

Hi, I’m Scott Terry. Merry Christmas from Christ Fellowship Today!

Every year we have a full year to prepare for Christmas. But what if Christmas came suddenly and unexpectedly? In Luke’s gospel the angel Gabriel appears to Mary and says this, “Greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you. Do not be afraid, Mary; for you have found favor with God; And behold you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus.”

That’s not only sudden, that’s incredibly intimate, and had to be pretty shocking to Mary. God didn’t seek Mary’s permission, but declared that Mary would conceive within her virgin womb the Son of God by the Holy Spirit. And, there is only one way to understand this shocking interruption in Mary’s life, it’s a good thing. Mary had found favor with Almighty God. That’s why she responded saying, “I am the servant of the Lord, may it be done to me according to your word.” “My soul exalts the Lord and Holy is His name!”

Why is God so bold to interrupt our lives? Bound by our own sin and selfishness, we would never invite Jesus into our lives, not even at Christmas. It’s by His grace that God sent Jesus to become the sacrifice for our sins on the cross. It’s by His grace that God give us the faith to believe and the will to turn from our sin and serve Him. When God breaks into your life with the true story of Christmas, it’s a good thing. Welcome Him and worship Him!

Won’t you come worship Jesus with us this Sunday at 10am and again Christmas Eve at 7pm, at Christ Fellowship Church.
